The Bell Brass Snare
TAMA is turning 50 this year, and they celebrate it accordingly. With five new snares in their popular Mastercraft series, the Japanese company offers a variety of new and improved drums. Starting with the most impressive and most expensive one, the new Mastercraft Bell Brass* made from 3mm Cast Bell Brass.

The Bell Brass comes in at an impressive 14″ by 6.5″, and a die-cast hoop with ten holes. The model also sports the original Superstar lugs. For the brass shell, TAMA used a unique metal alloy predominantly comprised of copper. This bad boy is a reissue of the famous 1980 model of the same name, and it comes in at 3,333 GBP.

For fans of the Mastercraft series who need a little less brass in their snare drum, TAMA offers updates on three other TAMA Mastercraft snare drums. They are all part of the Tama 50th Anniversary Limited Edition series. And they all come, just like the Bell Brass, with die-cast hoops with ten holes, TAMA’s Roller Action snare strainer, and an internal muffler with One Touch Tone Control to control the sound.
There is one version of the Mastercraft Steel* with a size of 14″ by 6.5″ at 666 GBP. In addition, both the TAMA Mastercraft Snare Drums Rosewood and Artwood each come in two sizes. For the latter, there is the Mastercraft Artwood 14″ x 6.5″* with a price of 749 GBP and the Mastercraft Artwood 14″ x 05″* costing 738 GBP.
For the Rosewood models, there is also a Mastercraft Rosewood 14″ x 05″* and a Mastercraft Rosewood 14″ x 6.5″*. Unfortunately, at the time of this writing, these two are already sold out at Thomann.

Mirage and S.L.P. Expressive Hammered Steel
It might not be as high-class as the new TAMA Mastercraft snare drums, but there is also plenty to discover with these two new models. The S.L.P. Expressive Hammered Steel 14″x6″ model is a special edition of TAMA’s popular “Sound Lab Project” snare series. Now at 13 different models, these snares are all about unique sounds.

And the Expressive Hammered Steel model* at a price of 352 GBP fits right in. Its shell is made of 1.2 mm hammered steel, and it sports Black Nickel hardware. In addition, a 20 strand Starclassic Carbon Steel snare wire is included.

And few things are as eye-catching as a transparent drum – sorry, TAMA Mastercraft snare drums! And TAMA’s Mirage series was immensely popular when they released it in the 70s. They already brought it back in 2007, but now a new version commemorates the anniversary. The TAMA 14″x6,5″ Mirage 50th Anniversary Snare* comes with 5.5 mm acrylic shell, ten hole die-cast hoops at a price of 374GBP.
