ZVex has just announced that pre-orders have opened on a limited run of its popular Box of Rock pedal. This classic overdrive/distortion pedal is getting the same ‘clear’ treatment as the ZVex Fuzz Factory Clear offered earlier this year. It’s being produced in limited numbers in a transparent enclosure with coloured LEDs on the inside. Hey, it looks cool, all right?
ZVex Box of Rock Clear
Zachary Vex’s ZVex Effects makes some great boutique pedals and his Box of Rock is certainly one of them. The Box of Rock models the famed 1966 Marshall JTM45 amp head. So what’s different about this limited edition? The enclosure is made of Lexan (that’s bullet-proof glass to you and me). So it should be able to handle your size 10 boot stomping on it with no problem. Other than the casing, it’s exactly the same as the standard edition.
1966 Marshall JTM45
As with all ZVex effects, the simplicity of control layout is part of its charm. The Box of Rock has only Volume, Tone, Drive and Boost to let you dial in your tones. The construction process includes copper shielding of the circuit board, input and output cables and also grounding of the stomp switch body. Each one of these limited edition Clear Box of Rock pedals is hand-wired in Minneapolis, MN and hand-soldered by Shoua Thao, the same assembler who has built all of the hand painted guitar effects for ZVex for the last 24 years. Each pedal is also true bypass, so it won’t mess with your guitar tone when not engaged.
This is a limited edition, so once they have sold out, that’s it. So if you fancy one of these, don’t dilly-dally. If you have lived under a rock and never heard the Box of Rock pedal, then click on the link below or watch the video!
