The Erica Synths Zen Delay Virtual is a new plug-in based on the sought-after Zen Delay hardware delay unit. However, rather than simply being a direct recreation, the ZDV plug-in expands on the already wild possibilities of the desktop delay.
For its development, the Ninja Tune / Erica Synths team brought the VCV coding expert, Raphael Hoffman on board to create something that is more of an instrument than just another delay plug-in.
The Erica Synths Zen Delay Virtual plug-in
As the requirements in studio are quite different from live music situations, the new ZDV plug-in is designed to bring the creative power and tonal range of the Zend Delay to the flexible DAW environment.
The main window will be familiar to Zen Delay users, with all the original controls and the ability to sync the delay times your the project tempo within your DAW.
From here, the ZDV expands on the features with a completely new modulation section. This brings a whole new dimension to the Zen Delay, with delay time and filter cutoff sections as well as a gritty digital mode.
The new mod section.
Each of the two mod sections is equipped with controls for frequency, waveform selection, level, AM, and FM amount. Meanwhile, the cutoff mod has an additional control for modulating the rate and flexible routing allows you to insert the filter into the feedback loop.
In addition, Digital mode in the center allows you to control the sample rate and bit depth of the signal and you can even add noise for creating additional texture.
Apart from creating and storing your own patches, the preset library has inspiring delay settings created by Mijk van Dijk, Nerk from TokTok, Dr. Walker of Air Liquide, Indian electronic artist Kiss Nuka, and many more valuable contributors.
Pricing and availability:
The Erica Synths ZDV plug-in is currently available from Thomann at an introductory price until May 8.
With each license sold, a five-year-old oak tree will be planted by the Liquid Sky reforestation project in southern Portugal and cared for until the tree is self-sufficient.
