The Wampler Wong Compressor is Cory’s signature compressor pedal and offers studio-grade compression with an added boost. Along with an XLR output with ground lift and an always-on mode.
The Wong Compressor is the work of Wampler and Corey Wong. Wong is known for his clean funk guitar tones and by his own admission owns 43 compressor pedals and uses studio rack compressors.
The idea behind this new signature model is to get the best compressor in a compact pedal format.
It looks like a tweaked version of the Wampler Ego Compressor * pedal. With lots of added features that will please both guitar and bass players.
Wampler Ego Compressor
The compressor section has controls for volume, sustain, attack and blend plus a tone control. Attack and sustain are the typical compressor controls and blend allows users to get parallel compression, by dialling in the dry signal to taste. A setting which most studio compressors have as standard.
Finally, the boost control adds either a flat or a mids-rich saturated boost around the 550Hz range.
Each side has its own dedicated footswitch to engage the effect.
It also has an XLR output with a ground lift switch on one side. Plus, an ‘always on’ switch, as Cory has his compressor on all the time and this stops users from accidentally switching off the effect.
The main LED changes colour letting users know whether the compressor, boost or both effects are engaged. Green for the compressor, Blue for the boost and Purple for both effects together.
It looks like a very well-specified compressor pedal and it will work happily with both guitar and bass guitar. One to check out if you need quality compression in your signal chain.
