Wampler Mofetta

The original Ibanez MS10 Mostortion was part of the much-celebrated Ibanez 10 Series and is now quite collectable and in demand. It is usually found for overinflated prices on used gear and auction sites.

Nashville session players John Mayer and others use original Ibanez units, which is why they are now so desirable.

Low Gain Bliss

Wampler Mofetta is a high-gain monster. However, similar to its predecessor, the circuit’s characteristics with low to medium gain levels are where it shines.

From edge-of-breakup to total, vintage amp-like crunch, the Wampler Mofetta shines with tube-like compression while always maintaining its musical warmth. Thanks to its high headroom, it can effortlessly drive your amplifier or modelling amplifier into harmonic clipping, making it also a perfect booster.

3-band EQ

One of the reasons the Wampler Mofetta is so versatile is its 3-band EQ. It’s not so unusual to have in 2024, but many overdrives before 1990 relied on a simple tone control.  This means tonal flexibility because the Mofetta can be controlled more like an amp.

MOSFET clipping

MOSFET clipping gives the sound a more precise timbre. It’s louder, tighter, and slightly more aggressive than a diode-powered overdrive. Although it’s still not “Brutal High Gain,” the Texture switch allows for a broader range of overdrive and even distortion that’s even more sensitive to your playing dynamics.

The Wampler Mosfetta is now available at Thomann*

I wouldn’t exactly call it “affordable”, more like an expensive boutique pedal but whatever.

The “affordable” bit was clearly expressed in context—versus an actual Ibanez Mostortion, which would cost you $500+ today.

The word “affordable” always has to be be evaluated within a context. You can’t even really call this “expensive” against “boutique” pedals….
