VOX Amplug 3 is the latest incarnation of their popular headphone amp series. Available in 7 different amp types and with a host of new updated features for 2024.

All seven of the new practical on-the-go exercise amplifiers are built in two-channel and each offers 3 effects and 9 rhythm patterns. One of the rhythms is a simple metronome, perfect for practicing your timing. With a fresh set of batteries, you have up to 16 hours of use from these compact units.

More InformationImproved Sound and Effects
According to Vox, these purely analog circuits have been improved compared to their predecessors. Offering a better playing feel and the amp tone structure should now be more authentic. The effects have also been revised so that users now have access to wide stereo effects.
The following models are available:
- AC30: The famous VOX AC30 sound. Channel 1 offers the classic warm sound, and Channel 2 is the top boost channel. Effects: Tremolo, Chorus, Delay & Reverb
- UK Drive: Replicates a British 100 W stack. Channel 1 sounds vintage, Channel 2 after crisp distortion. Effects: Chorus, Delay, Reverb
- US Silver: American Combo Amp. Channel 1: clean and warm clean, Channel 2 smooth drive sound, effects tremolo, chorus, delay, reverb
- Boutique: The sound of a famous boutique amplifier. CH1: Clean CH2 bright, silky Overdrive
- High Gain: Modern high-gain sound, either moderate or aggressive. Effects: Chorus, Delay, Reverb.
- Bass: Classic bass amplifier sound on Channel 1. Channel 2 brings additional overdrive. Effects: Compressor, Chorus, Delay, Hall. Ideal for pop, rock, and jazz
- Modern Bass: Modern, rather cleaner, and open amp sound on Channel 1, aggressive high-gain distortion “with an edge” on Channel 2. Effects: Chorus, Delay, Reverb.
Connectivity
These models all come with the ability to record directly into your smartphone using TRRS cables and a suitable adapter. They forgo modern-day Bluetooth connectivity and I guess this helps keep them fairly affordable. However, a lot of the competition does use Bluetooth.
Gig Bag Essential?
If this isn’t an issue for you, then these could be a great tool for practice. I can see them being a useful addition to a guitarist’s gig bag, for example, as they give you an easy option when you want to try out some new riffs through your headphones, etc

Honesty, buy a positive grid spark go instead. It does everything, sounds great and you have a speaker that is great for the size. The wire earbuds with guitar never worked so well.
