Matriarch Back 2 Front is a wide 1U module that brings all of the Matriarch’s rear Eurorack connections into your rack.

It’s a brilliantly simple idea that makes all those annoying to use Eurorack connections on the back of the Moog Matriarch easy to access. No more searching around with your fingers, pulling the synth out or shining torches to find the right patch socket; you can now leave it permanently wired in and access all the connections directly in your rack.

It’s not doing anything particularly clever. The module consists of a double-sided row of patch sockets and a nicely printed front panel that’s labelled up to reflect the Matriarch. To wire it up all you have to do is take a patch cable from the Matriarch and plug it into the back of the module. The sockets on the back are then mirrored on the front so you can patch it into the rest of your Eurorack. The panel covers all 16 Eurorack connections covering the ARP/SEQ, ST Delay, Keyboard and Euro-level outputs.

Voltage Vibes developer Peter Antens told me that it was designed as part of a case he’s building around his Matriarch for his Eurorack and thought that other people might be interested in the idea. The only thing you have to work out is how best to route the cables in your rack; they’re going to have to get to the back of the module some way or another.

Peter will take the idea a bit further with planned panels for other annoyingly rear connected bits of gear like the Arturia Keysteps and something a bit more universal. I think perhaps a small blank module with a rubber grommeted hole to accommodate a dozen patch cables might be a useful way of routing things to the rear of this fabulous solution.

Voltage Vibes will soon release a PCB/Panel set for €12.50, a full kit for €36.50 and fully assembled for around €46.50 ex VAT and shipping. More information will be coming soon so check out the Instagram, website (under development) or Facebook page for news.

Man, I would LOVE this in a desktop module format. I’ve got a beefy Doepfer Monster case, but it’s all 3U.

It’s so weird I was thinking just last week how someone should make a simple extension of the Matriarch’s back panel as I never use them!
