Victory Amplification MKX Lunchbox Head: 50 Watts, Flagship Sound, Compact Size
Small size, huge sound!

Legendary Sound like the MK series but without taking out a new mortgage? The Victory Amplification MKX Lunchbox Head is set to carry on the legacy of the legendary MK amps. These handcrafted premium amps, introduced in 2024 and priced at over €5,000, bore the signature of Martin Kidd, chief designer at Victory Amps and one of England’s most influential amp developers. With the MKX Lunchbox, you get his premium sound at a (slightly) lower price. What can this all-tube amp do?
What makes the Victory Amplification MKX Lunchbox Head so special?
If anyone stands for the lunchbox mini amps, it’s Victory Amps. Whether it’s The Deputy or The Duchess, Victory amps sound luxuriously loud. But with the Victory Amplification MKX, also in lunchbox size, they might have just made their best lunchbox amp ever. That’s because this all-tube amp is based on the MK series introduced in 2024.
MK Clean* and MK Overdrive* were the result of a mission. A mission from chief designer Martin Kidd. “Build the best sounding single-channel clean amp and the best-sounding multi-channel overdrive amp,” was Martin’s assignment. Handcrafted in England, both amps are available for prices exceeding 5,000 euros. Well, we earthly amp lovers can breathe a sigh of relief.

Victory Amplification MKX is closely based on the MK Overdrive. It comes with three voicings: Clean, Overdrive-1, and Overdrive-2, all with 50 watts of power. Three ECC83s are used in the preamp to provide a wide range of sounds from crunch to high gain.
What controls does the MKX offer?
From left to right, the Victory Amplification MKX, comes with a three-way switch for changing the voicings, followed by separate gain controls for each. Behind these are two three-band EQs, one for the clean channel and the second shared by both overdrive channels.

In terms of output volume and gain staging, the MKX offers separate controls for clean and overdrive, plus two master volume controls. That means that you can activate the second master volume using the included footswitch, saving you a boost pedal.
The MKX also offers two distinct reverb flavors. Reverb I is a more classic-sounding spring reverb, while Reverb II comes from The Deputy. Victory Amps describes it as a modern reverb that covers everything from ambience to shimmer. A two-way switch lets you to toggle between the two reverbs.
Connectivity
If you want to try out the tiny all-tube amp at home (or at least in your rehearsal room), use the “High/Low” switch to reduce the amp’s output power from 50 watts to 9 watts. On the rear panel, the Victory Amplification MKX offers three speaker outputs, two for 8-ohm and one for 16-ohm, two footswitch connections (for the included footswitches), and an FX loop.

And because the front panel was already too crowded, there are also controls for presence and resonance for the power amp on the rear panel. Incidentally, the power amp contains two EL34s. Victory Amps also offers a matching Victory Amplifiers MKX Lunchbox Cabinet, a 1×12 cab with a Celestion Seventy 80 speaker.
How much does Victory Amplification MKX cost?
You can order the MKX Lunchbox Head now for €1,659.00 from Thomann*. It will be available in just over a week. The MKX Lunchbox Cabinet is also available from Thomann for €399.00*.
