With the new Boneyard Fuzz, ThorpyFX has attempted to put all the best Tonebender tones, by combining all the classic ’60s Tonebender fuzz styles, into one compact pedal. It’s a very well known germanium transistor circuit, so this is a bold claim.

ThorpyFX Boneyard Fuzz

No expense has been spared with this new ThorpyFX Boneyard Fuzz, and many hours of studying and work have been put into bringing it to life. Adrian Thorpe, the main brains behind the brand has used premium 1% metal film resistors, Wima and Panasonic capacitors, and Neutrik jacks for these builds And he takes his pedal building very seriously, so I’m expecting great things from this new Tonebender style effect.

We cant make many of these as it took me several years to collect the transistors needed for this run. Grab one whilst they are available.

Germanium Transistors

The main issue could be that the Germanium transistors required to build this pedal are in very short supply, so it essentially means that this run of pedal could be around for a limited period. So you may want to think about ordering one sooner, rather than later.

The Design

Level controls the volume output of the pedal, then Attack increase the level of fuzz; everything from lighter fuzz through to searing fuzz is available to you with this one. The Tone knob controls the treble and bass response of the pedal, counter-clockwise will give you smoother sounds while clockwise gets you brighter sounds. This particular control is very interactive with the Attack control and the tone bypass footswitch. Finally, Feed controls the voltage attributed to the entire pedal, like a master Bias control for the whole circuit, and allows you to go from voltage-starved and spitty fuzz through to full-bore perfectly biased fuzz.

Modes

The Mode switch allows you to choose between a two transistor fuzz and a three transistor fuzz circuit. The right footswitch turns the pedal on/off and the left footswitch bypasses the tone stack entirely for a different tonal response, giving you a level boost. When this is switched on, the tone control has no affect at all, and does nothing.

Check out the video demos below, as this one pedal offers a lot of classic ’60s fuzz tones and more.
