With the Tegeler Vari Tube Compressor Update, the trusted bus processor receives two new features that make it even more versatile. These include a Color/Comp switch that selects the signal path you want to use and perfectly matched capacitors and transistors.
Like the famous Fairchild 670, this is a Vari-Mu style compressor and makes use of 3 transformers and 4 triode tubes on each of the two channels.
While it’s particularly effective at merging multiple drum channels into a more cohesive stereo pair, the dual mono operation makes it suitable for a wider range of applications too.
Tegeler Vari Tube Compressor Update
The primary new feature is a Color/Comp switch on each of the two channels. With this circuit, you can access the tubes and transformers without compression and use the VTC as a colourful tube overdrive.
Like the compressor, the input gain level becomes the main control. Here, you can dial in the amount of colouration you wish to add to the signal. As you can access this topology in both stereo and mono, this adds plenty of overall value to the VTC as it increases its utility.
Apart from the brand-new Tegeler logo on the front plant, the update also goes under the hood. Tegeler has also added perfectly matched capacitors and transistors that ensure the utmost integrity over the two channels in both stereo and mono operating modes.
The new updated Tegeler Vari Tube Compressor
The usual features like that sidechain HP filter still provide two frequency settings to isolate volatile low-end from the signal. The overall result is far more accurate compression with less risk of pumping.
This makes the VTC even better suited for doing subtle or more aggressive processing on your drum bus or the entire mix. In addition, you can use this feature in mono for tracking individual instruments like bass guitars or using the VTC as an insert.
