The VE series vocal pedals have been popular for many years, but loads of current and potential users have been wondering when this range of effects pedals would be updated. Well, the wait is finally over!
BOSS VE-22 Vocal Performer
With the VE-22, you get a three-pronged vocal processing attack, divided clearly into the respective Harmony, Effect, and Echo sections. What’s more, there is an additional Dynamics section accessed via the menu button.
Like the VE-20, the design is straightforward with a simple control layout, making it easy to do basic operations like activating the looper or switching effects in different sections of your songs.
There is a range of basic enhancement effects including compression, EQ, reverb, echo, delay, and more. In addition, there are more creative processing options like distortion, ring modulation, lo-fi, and radio effects, as well as other specialized effect types.
Pitch correction features range from subtle auto pitch correction all the way to the familiar T-Pain-style vocal effects. Also, there are doubling and harmony tools for creating rich ensemble-style vocal stacks.
The LCD screen helps you navigate the 50 onboard presets, and gives you a parameter overview when you’re making adjustments in the various effects sections.
With the adjustable mic preamp, you can set the gain for different microphone types and there is phantom power for condenser mics. Also, the pair of XLR outputs can function in dual-mono, stereo, or wet/dry mix modes.
Although the VE-22 does offer audio interface functionality for computers and mobile devices, the manufacturer doesn’t guarantee compatibility with all major devices and DAW systems.
