Free Plugins of the Week
Aaron Anderson Terrain: Explore Uncharted Sonic Terrain
Terrain聽by Aaron Anderson is a fascinating free software synth you don鈥檛 want to miss. It聽produces sounds using a聽2D trajectory聽(such as an ellipse) that scans over a聽3D surface. You can choose from various trajectories and terrains and modify their shape and behavior to create a wide spectrum of unique sounds, ranging from static timbres to evolving and meandering soundscapes. It鈥檚 quite intriguing; there鈥檚 a lot of sonic territory to discover here!

In addition to the trajectory and terrain parameters, there’s an聽envelope聽(which can also affect the size of the trajectory if you wish), a聽filter, and a聽compressor聽for shaping the final sound.
As both the trajectory and the terrain can be modified at audio rate, both must be calculated per sample, which is why the synth is quite demanding in terms of processing power. However, the sonic results are definitely worth it!
Terrain is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux in VST3 and AU formats.
BlepFX Destruqtor: Creative Distortion
Destruqtor by BlepFX is a unique creative distortion and exciter plugin. According to the developer, Destruqtor includes an expander stage before the waveshaper and a compressor after the effect. This companding architecture ensures that transients are preserved or even emphasized and the dynamic range of the signal remains intact.
The main control is an X/Y pad that allows you to adjust the even and odd harmonics independently and simultaneously. Furthermore, Destruqtor offers highpass and lowpass filters to control the frequency content that is fed into the distortion algorithm. There鈥檚 also an output gain control, as well as a dry/wet knob for adjusting the effect amount.
Destruqtor is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux in VST3, AU, and CLAP formats.
Vox Samples Angelic: Analog-Style Chorus
Vox Samples Angelic is an easy-to-use chorus effect modeled after analog hardware. It鈥檚 got all the controls you鈥檇 expect from a chorus: In addition to large Depth and Mix knobs for adjusting the amount and intensity of the effect, there are Rate, Delay, and Feedback controls to fine-tune the sound of the chorus. You also get input and output level controls, which can also add saturation and distortion at higher levels. Who doesn鈥檛 like a good-sounding free chorus?
Angelic is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats.
