Superbooth 23: Tasty Chips GR-MEGA multi-engine Granular Synthesis
The Tasty Chips GR-1 gets a delicious upgrade to the GR-MEGA with an expanded sound engine, multitimbrality, sequencing and effects.
GR-MEGA
The GR-1 Granular synthesizer first appeared way back in 2017. This year Tasty Chips is showing a new flagship product, the GR-MEGA Granular Workstation. The original was very much a hands-on affair focusing on the loaded sample. This time around, there’s a lot more going on.
I have no official details yet, but my information so far indicates that it has five synthesis engines, including Spectral Synthesis, Granular, Granular Slice and Tape Scratch Mode. It has an inbuilt step sequencer which can run all four parts of the multitimbral voicing individually. There’s also a modulation sequencer, chord mode, four LFOs and a dual filter. It’s all rounded off with a digital effects section.
GR-MEGA should be available by the end of the year for around €1,800. As soon as we get some video or further details, I’ll add them to this post.
