Rob Papen has made RP-VERB 2 available. The successor to the Dutch plug-in maker’s original RP-VERB sees the addition of several enhancements to the fold, including:
- Pre-reverb distortion for adding bite and character to the audio before reverb is applied.
- Reverse section for playing back the reverberated sound in sync with the host DAW’s tempo.
- Envelope follower enables gated reverbs and control over other RP-VERB 2 parameters.
- Additional modulation options are available, such as more envelopes, LFO, and a modulation matrix.
Phil Collins fans, take note! According to the marketing blurb, RP-VERB 2 makes it super-easy to get the “In The Air Tonight” gated reverb sound. Try the “Room Storm” preset and you should be there in no time. We encourage you to experiment with putting the Phil Collins reverb all throughout your productions so that you can get the maximum Phil Collins vibes possible out of your tracks…
We also commend the Rob Papen team for sticking to what’s really important. All those years of technical innovation and musical trendsetting would have been rendered meaningless if it was 2017 and we still weren’t able to dial in the Phil Collins drums in two clicks. If we had to choose between flying cars and those thundering “In The Air Tonight” drums, the latter would have totally won, no contest!
The original RP-VERB appeared in 2009 and won accolades for its creative approach and sound design potential, though people looking for a simpler functional reverb were advised to look elsewhere.
