The Modern Sounds Pluto is quite an adorable little box of knobs, sensors and patching possibilities that spin in an orbit of modulations.

Pluto

What a nice little box! It’s portable, compact, rechargeable and draws its inspiration from everything from Buchla to Casio and offers it up in a very approachable little modular synthesizer.

Pluto has two digital voices in there somewhere that are classic waveforms or wavetable and can be run by two internal sequencers or the little mini touch keyboard. There are five channels of modulation named after the five moons of Pluto. At the end there’s a delay circuit for added spaciness plus some glitch and looping effects.

The Buchla influence means you won’t find any filters on Pluto. Apparently, this planet is all about low-pass gates.

While it is a nicely featured stand-alone synthesizer it can also process external audio and send out two channels of CV and MIDI. It also has a sync port.

Pluto looks great! It’s a nicely laid out box with good colour coding to separate the voices and indicate functionality. The modulation is intriguing and it’s a good way to get into a bit of patching or to throw something different into your desktop setup.

Pricing and availability should be along soon.
