Fresh from Animal Factory Amplification is the Orobas Vacuum Tube VCA, Saturator and Distortion in one complex and fierce-looking module.

We caught a glimpse of this at NAMM last year but now it’s ready and they have some demos of it in action. It may not be immediately obvious but those black circles that look a lot like arcade buttons are actually the ends of protruding vacuum tubes – in this case NOS American 6SJ7 tubes.

Orobas contains 2 identical channels of voltage-controlled amplification which can be connected in parallel, series, mono or dual mono. It has the potential to be everything from a simple VCA, a dual 4-channel tube mixer, compressor, end-stage saturator through to a sound destroying feedback distortion. It can warm your audio or it can fold it into oblivion – the choice is yours.

More Information

This is a meaty and complicated module that has loads of room for modulation and interesting vibes. The saturation is fantastic, the “Evocation” where you’re feeding one tube into another is pretty awesome and you can CV control it for an animated or pulsing result. There’s a lot of great stuff going here.

Animal Factory Amplification says that these are difficult to make and they are going to produce 60 for the European market and they cost £429.47.
