Baby Terror

Orange is no stranger to mini-amp heads; they essentially invented the lunchbox amps with the Tiny Terror range. Now, they have the new Baby Terror, a solid-state, 20-watt, JFET-powered mini-amp head in a dinky form factor that weighs only 1.5 kg.

Tubby Switch

This latest single-channel amp model has a 3-band EQ consisting of Bass, Middle, Treble, along with a dedicated Presence for tone shaping. Plus, the Tubby Switch, a low-end bass contour that adds thickness and rounds out the tone. Hopefully, this addition will help dial in sweet, thick, clean, and full-drive tones.

The design features the standard Volume and Gain controls, complemented by a secondary FS Volume control. This second volume control is footswitchable, so users can boost the volume when required for solos, etc. A useful addition that helps address the lack of a second amp channel.

Rear Panel Connections

For such a tiny amp head, it packs in some useful connections on the rear panel. This includes a balanced XLR output (with ground lift) for recording, an effects loop, a footswitch input, and standard 8-ohm and 16-ohm outputs for a speaker cabinet.

As it is so small, the power supply for this amp head is external and uses a 15V supply that comes with the unit.

Who is it for?

It is aimed at someone who needs a compact amp head, and at 165 × 140 × 100 mm, it is pretty small indeed. The fact that it is solid-state means it should be easy to maintain, won’t chew through vacuum tubes, and will play nicely with most speaker cabinets.
