Also known as the “FET 47”, the U 47 fet was introduced in 1969 as a solid-state counterpart to the iconic U 47 tube condenser. Rather than vacuum tubes, it uses an FET (Field Effect Transistor) circuit design with the K 47 large-diaphragm capsule as the U 47. This alternate design allowed the FET 47 to tackle far more delicate sound sources such as thumping kick drums, blaring guitar amps, and, of course, high-voltage rock vocals.

This new Neumann U 47 fet Bon Scott Edition is based on the modern reissue (U 47 fet i), and it’s limited to only 300 units worldwide. If you don’t know who Bon Scott is, let me give you a little rock education. In 1974, the Australian band AC/DC was starting to gain traction with their first single, Can I Sit Next to You, Girl.

However, to put it lightly, things were not going well with the vocalist Dave Evans, and after a major blowout, he left the band and was replaced by none other than Bon Scott. Now, if you listen to this first single, it sounds distinctly glam-rock, and this was not the direction the band wanted to take. So, to encapsulate the vision of the new explosive AC/DC sound, they needed a frontman with grit and attitude, attributes Scott certainly never lacked.

Well, the rest, as they say, is history, and the debut AC/DC album High Voltage (1975) has sold over 4 million copies to date, and Scott went on to record a further five studio albums with the band before his untimely passing in 1980. This includes T.N.T. (1975), Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (1976), Let There Be Rock (1977), Powerage (1978), and Highway to Hell (1979).
