Nermal

Nermal is a good looking and intriguing distortion module which reports to have some unique sonic qualities. It has three levels of distortion ranging from subtle fatness to complete destruction.

The Bite switch brings in different degrees of aggression. The Ouch switch slaps Bite with an unwelcome boost while the Nibble switch lets the inbuilt modulator loose and pumps everything into oblivion. I am loving the way the teeth glow in response to the fierceness of the Bite. Other parameters such as Scratch, Soft/Hard and Lo/Hi are there to be discovered and played with.

Experimentation is the key with Neutral Labs devices. If you push the modulator up into audio rates you’ll discover all sorts of additional overtones and noises.

Scratch, Bite and Freq all have CV inputs for a bit of external modulation.

Nermal sounds fierce and unpredictable, it would be an interesting thing to spend some time with.

Nermal is available as a thru-hole DIY kit for €95.
