Probably the less exciting announcement of the day is that the Komplete Kontrol S88 hammer action controller keyboard is joining its brothers, the S61 and S49, in the second generation.

The S88 gets the twin screen Komplete Kontrol browser, the sleek black buttons and smooth redesign. The hammer action, fully weighted Fatar keybed remains the same. It gets the proper modulation and pitch wheels and the single expression strip.

You can now pretty much run the whole thing from the keyboard without having to look up at your computer screen. Every NKS compatible instrument and effects plug-in will turn up in the browser, on the little screens. Load it up with the push of a button or encoder and all the parameters are mapped to the 8 knobs and buttons below and above the screens. The workflow is slick, responsive and combines beautifully with the guiding lights on every key.

The Komplete Kontrol software runs either standalone or as a plug-in and you’ll also find DAW control available over Logic Pro X, Ableton Live, GarageBand, Cubase and Nuendo. If you have some Maschine hardware then you’ll find the S88 MK2 an ideal companion.

Bundled with Komplete 12 Select and Maschine Essentials you get 10 instruments, some percussion library and the Solid Bus Compressor and Replika delay to showcase the new support for effects plug-ins.

The new S88 will be available on the 27th September for £799. Be aware that Native Instruments like to drop the “MK2” off the Komplete Kontrol product names so make sure you are getting the new version when you order.
