NAMM 2020: Bastl Instruments and Casper Electronics Waver wavefolding drone mixer
In my view, Casper Electronics and Bastl Instruments bring out the best in each other. This latest collaboration called Wave is a wave folding drone mixer.
Stick three waveforms in and mix them together on three nice faders. A nice crossfader then steps in to do some wave folding. Get modulating on the level with the inbuilt bi-polar VCA, folding depth and fold shape. Then push it into distortion with the “Break” knob or disrupt it with some feedback. By this point it’s getting rather deliciously gnarly.
Waver is a CV and audio mixer that can come up with mixed and folded waveforms to enjoy as sound or modulation. There are 3 mix inputs, 2 bi-polar VCAs with attenuverting CV control, a wave folder and square shaper, pulse width modulator, signal clipper and feedback. You can output either before or after the shaper.
The Shape section is all about threshold clipping and folding waveforms. It expands the harmonic content, introduces complexity in experimental directions. Pushing the shape while blending the mix of inputs is the best way to find those sweet spots.
Break is a Casper Electronics signature feedback and distortion circuit which is the most fun thing to play with.
All this noise and disaster will cost you 8HP and €235 and is available now.
