Taking a nod perhaps from the PreSonus FaderPort iCon has revealed the Platform Nano DAW and MIDI Control Surface. It’s a small footprint DAW controller with a single motorised fader and all the most commonly used buttons for DAW navigation.
iCon Platform Nano
In total you get one touch-sensitive full-sized motorised fader with a dedicated encoder, four rotary dual-function encoder knobs, jog wheel and a field of brightly lit buttons. The knobs are surrounded by an 11 segment LED display showing you exactly where it’s pointing to. A backlit LCD displays the channel name and control values for the selected channel. A 12 segment LED display shows time and location in your project in either SMPTE or MIDI beat clock.
There are transport buttons, multi-function, multi-coloured function buttons, track and bank buttons and everything you need to successfully access and navigate your DAW.
Platform Nano supports Mackie Control and HUI protocols and has overlays for every popular DAW including Cubase/Nuendo, Logic Pro X, Digital Performer, FL Studio, Samplitude, Reaper, Studio One, Bitwig, Reason, ProTools, Sonar, Audition, Ableton Live and failing that has a User Define Mode.
It all connects up via USB 2 although there’s also optional Bluetooth wireless connectivity and a rechargeable battery pack. It can connect up to the Platform D2 LCD display (although it looks a little silly) and has jack inputs for footswitch pedals.
It’s a neat control surface that’s highly compatible and built to the usual iCon high standard. Very useful for those of us who are desktop-space challenged.
