NAMM 2018: Charvel new Pro-Mod models announced for 2018
Cool new finishes and even a Satchel Signature model for 2018
Charvel introduces new finishes and fingerboard wood options to their ever popular Pro-Mod So-Cal, San Dimas Style 1 and Pro-Mod DK24 ranges and they look mighty fine indeed.
Charvel 2018 Lineup
These new 2018 Charvel models include Seymour Duncan JB TB-4 bridge and an SH-1N ’59 neck humbucking pickups all controlled by a three-way blade switch and with a handy push/pull coil split activation and No-Load tone circuit (on the right-handed models only), which bypasses the tone control and gives you a direct to jack output tone.
Where applicable they use Floyd Rose bridges and locking nuts to give you rock-solid tuning and therefore allow you to dive bomb and squeal away like a madman, but there are a few hard tailed versions as well, so if you aren’t into whammy bar gymnastics you are still catered for.
New Look
What strikes me as the biggest difference this year is really the new colour options, which in my opinion look great and often give the guitars a more ’boutique’ look to them, think Luxxtone guitars etc That and you can now get some of the models with Ebony fretboards at last, which is a big deal and gives them a sleek new look and, I would imagine, feel as well.
I have one of the last years So-Cal models myself and it is a beautiful guitar (and it is Slime Green!), but I am already coveting the new Rocket Red version of this year’s new So-Cal that comes with the aforementioned ebony fretboard.
There are some really well-made guitars on offer here and it is great to see Charvel offering these new aged finishes, ebony boards and also adding new colours. Because speaking from experience I would rate Charvel as making some of the best all-around guitars at the moment and for very reasonable money.

Steel Panther Satchel Signature Pro-Mod DK
What is really cool and also funny as hell, is that Steel Panther’s Satchel has his own signature model Pro-Mod DK and of course, it is covered with tiger stripes for that totally ’80s vibe!
It comes loaded with a pair of Fishman Fluence Classic pickups and a Floyd Rose 1000 series tremolo, so you can re-live your MTV ’80s Metal video daydreams!
