The new Mattoverse Electronics Just a Phase pedal is an analogue phaser with 8 digitally controlled waveforms, plus tap-tempo. This should make for a very versatile and chewy sounding phaser effect.

With an all-analogue signal path, plus 8 digitally controlled waveforms, as well as an on-board tap-tempo function, the new Mattoverse Electronics Just a Phase has a lot to offer. You can choose between traditional phaser-style smooth sine and sweep waveforms, or you can opt for more aggressive square and ramp waveforms. It can even go into harmonic-tremolo territory and also has random square and slopes waveform options, making this phaser effect extremely versatile. And by combining digital control over an analogue circuit, you get the best of both worlds.

Simple Controls

The pedal’s controls are super simple and include character/depth, rate, and waveform. Dialling it in should be easy and shouldn’t detract from the sounds you can create. I personally think that this is a great way to design pedals. It seems intuitive and does not need a manual to get up and running. You also have two footswitches labelled BYPASS and TEMPO, with the latter allowing you to tap in the rate of the phasing effect.

Pricing

I think the price is also reasonable and compares very well to the mass-produced MXR Deep Phase we saw a few days ago, which has a street price of $129.99, but offers fewer options and no tap tempo facility. Considering Mattoverse Electronics is a much smaller operation than the Dunlop owned MXR brand, the asking price seems very competitive.

The pedal case comes in two versions. You can choose either a white or silver finish, with the more expensive option having an engraved clear acrylic faceplate.

Check out the official demo video below to hear the new Mattoverse Electronics Just a Phase pedal in action and see what you think. Having listened a few times myself, I’m quite impressed by its chewy organic character. I think I could happily find a spot for one on my own pedalboard.

RRP – USD 189 in white or silver, or USD 209 in white or silver with an engraved clear acrylic faceplate
