Formerly known as the Zen Delay Virtual plugin, the Liquid Sky d-vices XEN FX LAB adds some new creative features and interface tweaks.
The XEN FX LAB started out as a hardware delay pedal* with tube circuitry created with Erica Synths, which was later recreated as a plugin in 2023. Liquid Sky has now taken over this creative delay plugin and expanded its capabilities for modern music production.

The first thing you’ll notice is that the main control interface is slightly different. To make the workflow more straightforward, the delay and filter mode switchers have been transformed into sliders, which makes it easy to see which mode you’ve selected. Besides the new UFO logo, Liquid Sky has also introduced a carefully modeled spring reverb tank.
If you remember, it’s the combination of spring reverb and tape echo that makes gear like the Roland Space Echo its own unique identity, so Liquid Sky is certainly on the right track here. There are new controls for spring reverb’s mix amount, the spring tension level, tone, decay, and regen, which let you shape the sound to complement your delays.
What’s more, there is a Strike button to excite the spring reverb and a Dub button for creating smooth dub effect trails, ideal for transitions or simply creating spatial textures in your mix. The modulation section remains the same, with filter and time modulation sections and a digital reduction effect for building lo-fi sounds.
Meanwhile, the XEN FX LAB is more CPU-friendly than ever, so you can experiment with as many instances as you like in your DAW. The plugin also features a new MIDI mapping layer that lets you map the parameters to your favorite hardware controller quickly and easily. Besides standard desktop compatibility, the XEN FX LAB will also be available for iPad.
