Introducing the new Sennheiser HD 660S2 audiophile headphones

The Sennheiser HD 660S2 is the latest addition to the renowned 600-series range. In response to feedback from users of the previous model within the hi-fi community, Sennheiser has updated the design with this critique in mind.
The HD 660S2 is a more high-end pair of headphones in almost every department. From the acoustic aspects and comfort to the audio performance, this upgrade aims to feed into every hi-fi fanatic’s curiosity – whether they need new headphones or not.
What’s new about the Sennheiser HD 660S2
The HD 660S2 is built on the same open-back design as the HD 660S, with slightly smaller 38mm dynamic transducers as opposed to 42 mm. The fundamental difference between the two is the new magnet housing has been optimized to provide more room for additional movement.
This is because the HD 660S2 has a widely extended sub-bass range, as well as more pronounced highs. In addition, the valley around 6 kHz isn’t nearly as prominent as they are with the previous model. So you’ll get a very detailed and immersive experience even at very low listening levels, which favours more dynamic styles of music like classical and opera.

What’s more, the HD 660S2 has a 300-ohm impedance rating compared to the HD 660S which was 150 ohms. This puts them squarely in audiophile territory, so if you don’t already have a dedicated headphones amplifier, you’ll certainly need one. The average mobile device’s audio output won’t provide enough juice to get the best performance from these headphones.
Overall, the 660S2 offers more overall clarity and detail over the entire spectrum. The frequency curve enhances old recordings while providing enough power for new pop and EDM in the low end.
