Inner Space for Cherry Audio DS-2 by CustomSonics
The Crumar DS-2 is Cherry Audio’s latest in what is becoming a very long line of excellent software recreations that tackle the vintage synthesizers other won’t dare! And we’re all the richer for it. The Crumar DS-2 is not exactly well known in the synth world.
But thanks to the clever team at Cherry Audio, we can now wallow in its Italian quirkiness and benefit from all of the 21st century advancements that software plugins allow, such as polyphony and polyphonic aftertouch!
The DS-2 comes bundled with a big collection of factory presets, but now you can add another 60 sounds to your palette, completely free of charge, courtesy of Cherry Audio and Ger Hughes of CustomSonics.
Inner Space is a collection that really shows off the abilities of both the instrument and the sound designer, with sounds covering all the usual categories, including pads, leads, basses, plucks, polysynths, brass and more.
The Crumar DS-2, with its smiley face pitch bend, has never sounded better, with Inner Space really exploiting all it has to offer. Sadly, there’s no demo video of Inner Space’s sounds, but you can check out Ger’s demo of Inner Space on the Cherry Audio Page, where you can also add the bank to your account for zero pennies!
Haunted Spaces 2 for Kontakt by Soniccouture
If you’re writing ambient or soundscape style music, you will appreciate the importance of conjuring up a sense of space, a visceral feeling of your surroundings and environment. The right sounds can be the difference between something sounding flat or fully three dimensional.
Chris Watson, an ardent field recordist and a founding member of Sheffield electronic music pioneers Cabaret Voltaire, appreciates this and has had a lifelong passion for the atmosphere contained within empty spaces, which he believes still possess the life of what previously occupied them.
Learning of Chris’ extensive collection of recordings, those clever beans at Soniccouture felt compelled to bring these sounds together with other musical sounds to give us Haunted Spaces 2, with 50 extra original field recordings added over the first version.
The interface allows the user to mix and blend both environmental sounds with musical samples from the likes of a Hammond Novachord, an Ondioline, bowed piano and many more suitably eerie and evocative tones.
If creating sounds and compositions with an intrinsic sense of spookiness and foreboding is your thing, this library is very much for you, although I’m sure it can be used in many different ways too. Haunted Spaces 2 is available now for a reduced price of £129, which is £50 off for a limited time.
Rivet for Roland JP-8000 and variants by Kulshan Studios
Once again, we have another sound set for the Roland JP-8000 and many of its clones from Dawnchaser, via Kulshan Studios. This time, the focus is well and truly on all things Industrial with the aptly named Rivet.
If you’re into making music along the lines of Rob Zombie, Front 242, Skinny Puppy, Rammstein et al, then this bank is for you, making the most of that classic SuperSaw oscillator and the ring and cross mod facilities of the JP-8000.
Of course, now that we’ve had a glut of JP-8000 clones, this bank is relevant to a modern audience, as well as owners of the original. So if you have Arturia’s excellent Jup-8000 V, or Adam Szabo’s Airwave, or maybe you’ve indulged in the amazing bit-perfect emulation by The Usual Suspects in the form of their JE-8086, this bank will work for you.

Botanica for Arturia Pigments by skendi
Our final sound bank this week is from the ever-productive stable of Anton Anru, courtesy of skendi. This time, the bank is for the stunningly brilliant Pigments and each and every one of the 50 patches are arpeggios.
Inspired by nature-driven atmospheres, this collection of arps is aimed fairly and squarely at the IDM market, but would work well across many other electronic-based genres. Using the polymetric functionality of Pigments’ arpeggiator and sequencer, Botanica uses wavetables alongside the myriad FX and modulators offered by this powerful synth.
There’s plenty of movement and a lot of inspirational patches that will either inspire you to begin a new track or put the finishing touch on something you’re already working on, maybe? As you’d expect, skendi has made full use of the Macros within Pigments as well as the mod wheel, making it easy to shape these sounds on the fly.
And because Arturia has a very well-connected ecosystem, these presets will work with Pigments, Analog Lab and Astrolab too, provided you have the latest versions of each. Botanica for Arturia Pigments is available now, for $19.95, direct from the Anton Anru store.
