For the latest plug-in of the T-RackS series, IK Multimedia has partnered with Joe Chiccarelli, whose mixing credits include a long list of legends from Elton John to the White Stripes. The plug-in is a software recreation of his signature vocal processing chain. It not only includes emulations of the various processors, but also mimics the routing and workflow that Joe likes to use.

The signal enters the plug-in through an input gain fader, after which you have the option to apply a high pass filter. The input section also offers a de-esser with two settings for male and female vocals, which is handy for cleaning up sibilance before the signal hits the processing chain.

Three parallel compressors

The compressor section is the main event. Here, you have a choice of three compressor models, which are wired in parallel and can (and should!) be used simultaneously. Besides emulations of an 1176 and a Fairchild 670, there’s a unique hybrid tube compressor made up of a UA 176 and a Tube-Tech CL1B, which was custom-built to Joe’s specifications. All three were modeled using IK’s analog modeling technology, the manufacturer says.

Moving on to the right, the equalizer section features three bands: Body, Presence, and Air. You can choose to insert it into the signal path before or after the compressor.

Furthermore, the T-RackS Joe Chiccarelli Vocal Strip includes a bunch of effects for polishing. These come from IK Multimedia’s extensive library of algorithms and were hand-picked by Joe Chiccarelli, the developer says. Besides two reverbs and two delays, you have a choice of two modulation effects.

Finally, the output section offers a global dry/wet control, saturation, and color. There’s also a chunky output level slider.

Complete channel strips like the Joe Chiccarelli Vocal Strip are convenient because they offer everything in one place. With the latest addition to the T-RackS ecosystem, you now have another promising-looking alternative for this task.

Price and compatibility

The IK Multimedia T-RackS Joe Chiccarelli Vocal Strip is now available for an introductory price of €129.99 plus VAT. This offer is good through May 31, 2022, after which the price will increase to €159.99 + VAT.

The channel strip runs as a single plug-in or inside the T-RackS 5 shell. It requires macOS 10.10 or higher or Windows 7 or higher. The plug-in is available in VST, VST3, AU, and AAX versions.

Note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated a regular price of €149.99 + VAT. We have corrected the mistake. The regular price is €159.99 + VAT.
