Harley Benton has just announced a set of T-style guitars it’s calling the TE-62CC range. The focus here is on vintage stying and tones, courtesy of twin Alnico 5 single coil pickups and some tasty colour options. But some attention has also been paid here to modern playability. Here’s more about the four new Harley Benton models.

Harley Benton TE-62CC

The new Harley Benton TE-62CC comes in classic vintage colours, including Shell Pink, Seafoam Green, Lake Placid Blue, and Charcoal Frost. From Harley Benton’s Deluxe Series, they have poplar bodies, and a traditional bolt-on neck design. The caramelised maple neck comes with a Modern D profile, a Roseacer skunk stripe, and 22 frets. It also has a dual action truss rod and uses a 42mm nut width.

The hardware includes traditional three barrel-saddle bridge and a set of vintage style tuners, as you’d expect on a guitar of this style.

Alnico 5 Tone

Twin Roswell Alnico 5 TEA-F-CR/TEA-B single coil pickups are wired to a traditional three-way selector switch, plus standard master volume and tone controls. All four models come fitted with a 3-ply mint green pickguard, which I think works well with all four colour options. All come factory fitted with a set of D’Addario EXL110 010-046 strings.

Vintage Style and Voicing

As ever with Harley Benton, the asking price for the new TE-62CC models is very competitive at €149, so they could make a great guitar for players looking for a vintage TE-style flavour without breaking the bank. The Modern D neck profile notwithsanding, the TE-62CC is a more traditional take on this shape. But if you want something with a bit more rock and with more tonal flexibility, have a look at the Harley Benton Fusion-T HH HT models that launched yesterday, with twin humbuckers and coil-split.

I love the colours on this latest release! It’s great to see some well priced guitars in interesting colour options, rather than just the standard sunburst, black and red!

How’s the weight? The TE52 is amazing value but it’s a bit too heavy for me.

We are not sure yet, as just announced this morning. Hoping for reviews from new owners over the coming weeks. Unfortunately, everything feels light to me these days, as I rock a ’70s Gibson Les Paul Custom as my main guitar!

Just got the charcoal finish version and I can’t recommend it enough. I swear the neck is as great as my ’97 Fender AM std. and the AM pro 2 that I sent back. PU’s sound decent and it’s got the perfect weight for a tele IMO. I’m a bit of a Squier fanboy but I’m glad that I got this one for a third of the price of a CV. Also digging the mint green pickguard. There is some buzz with the D string when you play acoustically but that’s my only gripe. Plays great and feels like an AM Pro 2, honestly. YMMV, ofc!

Just a little want from me: Please me a version with the HB Paisley finish. That would be the best thing ever! Make it happen!

I’ve only tried the TE52 and the 62 and I would absolutely go with the TE62. Much lighter and more resonant. It’s always hit or miss with cheap guitars even though I’ve had great luck with HB so far. Looks much better too!
