Hammond has announced the XK-7 and XK-7D at NAMM 2026. On the outside, the new portable organs look quite similar to the previous model, the XK-5. What’s more important, however, is what’s going on inside. And that’s where the XK-7 and XK-7D represent a big step forward.

More Information

The new VEM sound engine (Virtual Electro-Mechanical) uses physical modeling to reproduce the tonewheels of vintage Hammonds even more authentically than before. A new Hammond L-112 model has also been added. The XK-7 and XK-7D offer dedicated panel controls for Key Click and Leakage, letting you adjust these parameters on the fly.

The supplemental organ sounds have also been improved. According to the manufacturer, the Hammond XK-7 and XK-7D come with enhanced Combo Organ sounds (Italian, British, Japanese), and an expanded pipe organ section.

Both new organs feature new keybeds with longer keys and six physical contacts per key for a more authentic vintage Hammond feel.

There’s also a new preamp mode that reproduces the character of the vintage Hammond AO-28 and AO-29 preamps. It can be added to the organ and Leslie sounds separately.

Speaking of Leslie: the Hammond XK-7 and XK-7D offer an enhanced digital Leslie simulation with nine rotary speaker models plus an emulation of the stationary Hammond PR-40 cabinet. An external rotary speaker cabinet can be connected to the 11-pin output.

As of today, we don’t yet know when the new Hammond organs will become available and what they will cost.
