Halloween and Horns – Sounds and Presets
Happy Halloween and a Very Merry Goth Xmas!
It’s Halloween this Friday, so we’ve got some appropriate sound banks for this time of year, plus some amazing horns and sounds for Omnisphere and Behringer’s UB-Xa.
Halloween and Horns – Sounds and Presets
V Brass French Horns for UVI by AcousticSamples
Full disclosure. I love everything that AcousticSamples make. I first discovered their libraries when I was a MOTU Mach Five user. When UVI and MOTU parted ways, UVI took their excellent sample engine and created Falcon. Thankfully, AcousticSamples followed them and continue to make great instrument libraries.
It almost feels wrong calling it a mere sample library as it goes way beyond that through their excellent scripting and the unique harmonic alignment technology, aka H.A.T. This very clever programming enables players to exert continuous control over their performance.

Bolstering their excellent V Series of instruments is V Brass French Horns. Oh boy, do I love French Horns! I think my love of them started with the Pet Shop Boys and their epic track, ‘Left to My Own Devices’ on the ‘Introspective’ album. There’s something ceremonial and magnificent about a French Horn ensemble.
There are six instruments available in this pack, each exhibiting the brilliant programming of the AcousticSamples team. We have four different types of French Horn, a Triple Horn and a Wagner Tuba. Each of these works magnificently on its own, but also come together to deliver that impressive ensemble sound.
There are some clever new additions to the V Series with this release. Recorded Legato overcomes the tell-tale issue of performing legatos with virtual instruments rather than the real thing. The Bee Dial allows you to introduce specific frequencies to get that sizzle in the sound. Finally, a new Multi-Mic Mixer expands the capabilities of all the mic positions.
There’s full compatibility with many keyboard, breath and wind controllers and you don’t even need to own UVI’s Falcon as this library works fully with UVI’s free Workstation plugin, allowing you to use it wherever you wish. You can buy V Brass French Horns for €149 until November 1st, when the prices goes up to €199.
Fragments for Omnisphere by Tom Wolfe
Omnisphere 3 has only been out for a week, and it’s already whipping people up into a frenzy with its expanded capabilities and huge library. You might think that with over 21,000 presets, you won’t need anymore, but Tom Wolfe seems to disagree!

Fragments is a collection of 50 presets for both Omnisphere 2 and 3 that give you melodic sequences and percussive patterns full of motion and movement. Ambience is the name of the game here and this bank is available in two different versions.
The regular version comes with the 50 stereo presets, but the Binaural Edition comes with those stereo presets and 50 binaural versions of them to boot! Tom even throws in 10 free bonus WAV loops, all made with the sounds available in Fragments.
As always, Tom has created a demo pack of 5 selected sounds from the pack so you can try before you buy, and there’s also a very generous introductory offer to be had. Fragments for Omnisphere is available now for an introductory price of £15.99 for the standard edition and £23.99 for the binaural edition until November 5th, 2025.

LFO.store are currently celebrating the release of their 1000th sound library, but this week, we’ve got a freebie from Otto K. Schwarz made especially with Halloween in mind, for KORG’s wavestate. The pack contains 22 performances for the wavestate that use internal samples, so it’s a small footprint too!

There’s even a Halloween demo project included, delivered as a Cubase project, MIDI file and audio. The pack is compatible with all versions of the wavestate, including the module, native and SE versions. Full installation instructions are included.
So if you’re looking to pumpkin spice up your Halloween productions or performances, this free little pack might just be fright up your street! You can get the Halloween pack for wavestate at the LFO.Store and pay what you like!
Sounds for Behringer UB-Xa and UB-Xa D by Jexus WCOG
Behringer’s UB-Xa and UB-Xa D have established themselves as some of the best selling and best loved synths from the company, and there are good reasons why. True analogue 16 voice engine coupled with a polyphonic aftertouch keyboard is enough to whet anyone’s appetite.

Now Jexus takes on the UB-Xa, and its desktop sibling, the D, and in doing so found that his initial concerns about the synth, its interface and sound quality were quickly blown away. Jexus has dived into the UB-Xa engine and used all of its features to craft 128 really nice patches.
So after getting familiar with the instrument, Jexus set about crafting these sounds that typically stay away from being categorised and just concentrate on being good, inspiring sounds. Not only do you get a full bank of 128 sounds, but you also get all of the sequences.
Jexus has built a solid reputation for their sound design skills, being employed by some of the big hardware synth manufacturers to make factory presets for their instruments, so you know you’re buying quality sounds from a reputable designer.
Jexus’ UB-Xa sounds are available at his website for £14.90/€16.90/$18.90.
