Gibson Century Collection: 12-Fret Acoustic Models
Vintage voiced 12-Fret models announced
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Gibson flat-top acoustic guitars, the manufacturer presents the Gibson Century Collection. Three new 12-fret models: the J-45 Century 12-Fret, the L-00 Century 12-Fret, and the J-185 Century 12-Fret. All three guitars are based on the proportions and construction principles of the legendary vintage originals and look fantastic.

What makes the 12-fret design so special?
The defining feature of Gibson Century Collection ’12-Fret’ models is, as the name suggests, the neck-body joint at the 12th fret. Compared to the now-common 14-fret design, this changes several things at once: the neck is slightly shorter, and the bridge plate is thus positioned closer to the widest part of the body.
This allows the top to vibrate more freely, and the overall playing feel is often perceived as particularly comfortable. The result not only provides a traditional look but also a warm, vibrant, and highly articulate sound.
High-End Builds
All three models rely on tried-and-tested, high-quality components, such as a solid Sitka spruce top, solid mahogany back and sides, and a mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard.
They also feature a bone nut and, depending on the model, either 3-on-a-plate tuners with cream-colored tuning pegs or open-gear Golden Age Strap nickel tuners, which complete the classic look. Furthermore, the guitars are finished with a thin, satin nitrocellulose lacquer.
What models are available?
The Gibson Century Collection includes three different body shapes:
• J-45 Century 12-Fret – the compact classic with versatile all-round character
• L-00 Century 12-Fret – the smaller, focused blues and fingerstyle variant
• J-185 Century 12-Fret – the largest model with more fullness and presence
All three draw on their respective Gibson traditions but transform them into a common 12-fret concept.
