TiagoLr GATE-12: Envelope Generator Reloaded
GATE-12 by TiagoLr is the follow-up to the developer’s earlier GATE-1 plugin. Like GATE-1, it is a volume automation and envelope plugin inspired by plugins like GrossBeat and ShaperBox, but as the name suggests, it has become even more powerful and versatile.
GATE-12 lets you draw multi-segment volume envelopes using a curve editor. 12 different patterns can be programmed and triggered via MIDI notes. Patterns can sync to your song tempo, which is great for creating sidechain pumping and similar tempo-synced effects.
The biggest improvement in the new version is without a doubt the new audio trigger feature. In contrast to GATE-1, the envelopes in GATE-12 can also be triggered using audio transients, which allows them to respond to the input signal. There’s also a new sequencer for quickly building and randomizing patterns, and the curve editor has been refined with features such as multi-point selection, scaling, and skewing. A great update that makes this excellent plugin even more useful!
GATE-12 is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux in VST3, AU, and LV2 formats.
Flandersh Tech Lushtraq: Free Multiband Compressor
Lushtraq by Flandersh Tech is a free multiband compressor for precise dynamics control and tone shaping. It offers four bands with adjustable crossovers. Each band has all the familiar compressor controls such as threshold, ratio, attack, release, knee, and makeup gain, making it fairly straightforward to use. Each band can also be assigned to the external sidechain input.
In addition, Lushtraq offers per-band analog-style saturation with a tape mode. There’s also an additional saturation stage in the master bus.
Perhaps most interestingly, Lushtraq includes an AI-powered assistant that offers loudness-based, genre-specific, and platform-ready suggestions. While these may not always deliver the results you have in mind, they can be a great way to familiarize yourself with the controls of a multiband compressor and how they affect the sound.
Lushtraq is a VST3 plugin for Windows.
Somerville Sounds Gentle Vibes: Soft, Dreamy Vibraphone Timbres
Somerville Sounds has re-released another one of their older Kontakt libraries as a standalone plugin. Gentle Vibes is based on samples of an old set of marching vibes. They were played rather softly, so they’re perfect for intimate, delicate, and somewhat nostalgic tones.
Like the other instruments of the series (check out Antiquarian Echoes, Dusty Felts, and Soft Drums Lite), Gentle Vibes offers additional controls for tone shaping. You can blend three types of mallets, apply lowpass and highpass filters, and add a touch of tape-style wow and flutter effects for a vintage timbre.
