Love Hultén is a regular on these pages delighting us with lusciously designed quirky instruments and pieces of music technology art. His latest creation is not an original instrument but rather a mod for the Korg Minilogue called Carrier 27 that transforms it into a piece of 1970s Sci-Fi.
It’s become a beautiful piece of design. Part G-Plan furniture, part test equipment, part vintage music instrument the Carrier 37 pushes all the right buttons when it comes to a future-retro aesthetic. He says it’s inspired by the 1984 Commodore SX-64.
Behind the wooden veneer is a Korg Minilogue, the original version, that’s been hacked out of its case and had its keyboard removed. The genius bit is that the keyboard has been re-housed in its own unit that fits together with the synth box to for a wonderful looking case complete with carry-handle. The orange knobs are simply splendid, the wood colouring and cable choices are just perfect. And by the look of it there’s a speaker built-in as well.
There’s currently no information on whether Mr Hultén will make this available as a product for people who would like to take a saw to their Minilogue. But it is a thing of beauty.
