Fender has announced a new Limited Edition American Professional Stratocaster – with a solid rosewood neck. The guitar is available in two nice-looking colour schemes and has some very tasty pickups too. From what we gather, this is a new release and not the super-limited run of only 100 in Fiesta Red from January this year.

Solid Rosewood Neck

After the lifting of CITES restrictions, it looks like we are now going full tilt on the opposite direction, from using rosewood for fretboards to full-on solid rosewood necks! This Limited Edition American Professional Stratocaster has a neck made from solid rosewood and comes in two gorgeous finishes, Fiesta Red and Desert Sand. I think both suit the all-rosewood neck nicely.

Deep C Tone

Both models have neck with a Deep “C” neck profile. That should feel nice and meaty and not too anaemic or thin, something I think is a good basis for decent tone. After all, the neck plays a large role in the guitar’s overall sound, so a solid chunk of nice, sturdy rosewood may do good things for your tone. The neck has a bone nut – always a nice touch – and fitted with 22 narrow-tall frets, which should support bends and vibrato.

Elsewhere, we find a great-sounding set of Fender’s Pure Vintage ’65 Stratocaster single-coil pickups. I love these and I’ve used them on a friend’s Strat. They give a good all-round, vintage vibe and aren’t too dark with plenty of spank – just what you need on a good Strat. Fender has added a useful Treble bleed circuit, which will help maintain the high frequencies when you turn down the volume.

This modern-day Stratocaster has 22 frets instead of the 21 you’d need to stay vintage-correct. Fender have added little enhancements like a pop-in tremolo arm for enhanced stability, avoiding that annoying wobble you get on Strats with a loose trem. Oh and a massive chunk of rosewood for a neck!

I’m impressed with these. Fender has hit a home run here and the two colour choices should appeal to a lot of players.
