Bonamassa Tone Master ’59 Twin First Thoughts

I’m finding it hard to justify the price of the new Fender Bonamassa Tone Master ’59 Twin, since it’s essentially an amp model in a fancy tweed combo. They have a $1999.99 price tag and are built in China. Which seems like a lot of money for what is a pretty basic amp, with some digital modeling onboard.

If you love Joe Bonamassa, or must have that Fender Tweed amp tone, then you will maybe like these. I just feel there are much better options in 2026 without the high price tag. These feel like you’re paying for a brand name, and you’re not getting much flexibility for your money.

Remember, this isn’t a hand-built tube amplifier; it is a digitally modeled amp in a fancy tweed-coated combo.

Joe Bonamassa Tweed Tones

Fender modeled the Twin Tweed amp Joe Bonamassa likes, then put the models into an 85W digital modeling combo.

Yes, it looks like a vintage tube amp, but it isn’t one. It comes with custom Celestion speakers, a handy XLR output for recording, and USB-C for firmware updates, etc.

They also include a digital convolution reverb and a handy effects loop, useful for guitarists. On paper, it does things a real ‘59 Twin-Amp could never do, so that’s a bonus for modern players. It is rated at 85 watts and comes with a footswitch and an amp cover included in the price.

It’s wrapped in a solid pine cabinet with tweed covering and Bassman grille cloth, so it looks and (hopefully) sounds the part.

Celestion JB85 NEO Signature

It has two 12″ Celestion JB85 NEO Signature speakers, specially designed for this amp, a 5-way power attenuator, and three selectable IRs. You can fully configure these using the Tone Master IR Manager app. It also has a “Vintage Tight” switch for tighter bass response.

The controls are authentically modeled on the original, so every adjustment reacts like the real thing. This attention to detail extends to the smallest details, including control ranges replicated down to the millimeter. In short: The Tone Master amps are absolutely intuitive to use.

Fender 5F8-A

The Fender 5F8-A is based on a late ’50s high-powered Twin with two channels: Normal and Bright, and that is what matters, since that’s the sound Joe wants from this amp. I’m just finding it hard to justify $2k for one amp tone when many modelers in 2026 can do this, and a whole lot more, for far less.

Value for money?

I don’t see value for money here, as they are made in China and have essentially a limited amp voice (which you may love, or not). I’m sure there are more cost-effective ways to get these tones from guitar amps.

I don’t hate it; I just think it’s overpriced for what it offers.
