Superbooth25 is over, and while the bulk of the stories are written, logged and published, there are a few more to get out. Like this one, about Elektron and Overbridge for iPad.

Yes, you read that right. Everybody’s favorite black box manufacturer has been busy cooking up a version of its Overbridge software for the Apple iPad, allowing you to stream devices like the Digitone II (which just recently got Overbridge support) into apps like Logic Pro for iPad and AUM.

Elektron Overbridge for iPad: Live Feedback

According to a video posted by Sonic State, Elektron debuted the software at Superbooth as a way to test the waters, get live feedback and do some beta testing. Thomas from Elektron stressed that there was “no official announcement on when and if it’s coming.” However, it certainly looks impressive and could be a boon to iPad music creators.

Elektron Overbridge for iPad: What Is It?

If you’re unfamiliar with Overbridge, it’s a piece of software that lets compatible Elektron devices work inside your DAW. This includes a streaming system for multi-channel audio, plugins for controlling the gear from within the DAW, and latency compensation

The iPad version is currently focused on streaming, giving you “a lot of channels” of audio inside the iPad. How many is “a lot?” That’s 42 in total: 16 tracks, effects (delay and reverb), and a main channel, totaling 21 stereo tracks.

Additionally, you’re not restricted to one device at a time. In the demo, Thomas showed how a Digitone II, Analog Rytm and Syntakt were all hooked up simultaneously. Thomas could switch between them using a dropdown menu in Overbridge. These are recognized as separate audio interfaces inside apps like Logic for iPad, where you can run all 16 tracks as individual channels in the DAW. Thomas also demonstrated it working with AUM.

Additionally, you can also use your Elektron device as a MIDI controller to operate plugin instruments.

Elektron Overbridge for iPad: Yes, Please

While Elektron stressed that there are no plans currently to release this, nor have there been any discussions on pricing, reaction to the video has been overwhelmingly positive, with many users taking to the YouTube comments section to express their interest in Overbridge for iPad.

“Elektron, if you see this comment, YES PLEASE!” said user krazyrabbit. “As a big fan of using the iPad in my workflow and having the OG Digitone/Digitakt, and AUM, this would be amazing! Hope this comes to production!”

“This is easily the most exciting thing I’ve seen from Superbooth—yes please, Elektron!” said borncurmudgeon.

“Amazing! This is next level! Can’t wait,” agreed prospektraks.

One response to “Elektron Overbridge for iPad: How Soon Could You Be Streaming Your Digitone II?”

In the meantime, most Roland flagships are not even class compliant. And those who are only provide a master stereo pair of inputs 🤷🏻‍♂️
