If you haven’t watched the hit Netflix show Stranger Things then you’ll have missed a whole lot of the ultra-cool ’80s retro synth tones. The series has been a phenomenal success, lighting up social media with references and quotes. Well, now you can get those synth tones for yourself and for free from CZounds!
The Upside Down
You are going to need an old Casio CZ synth, any of these will do: – CZ-101, CZ-1000, CZ-3000, CZ-5000 or a CZ-1. Now you’ll just need to do a simple SysEx dump and shortly after you’ll be in ’80s synth heaven.
Eleven
You can use Mac or PC and either a SysEx transfer program (or a MIDI sequencer) and a MIDI cable. CZounds have made a collection of 16 free Casio CZ patches and they all sound great. Check out the demo below of the patches available and then go dig out your old Casio CZ synth and get all spooky. Turn down the lights and hang some Christmas lights around the room for full effect!
