The Charvel Phil Sgrosso signature model has been revealed. The As I Lay Dying guitarist has a new stripped-back guitar. Officially named the Pro-Mod So-Cal Style 1 H FR E. It might be a mouthful, but it certainly looks, killer.

This new Charvel Phil Sgrosso signature model is due out in November 2022, so we will have to wait a bit before we can get down and dirty with one. The Silverburst finish and black anodized aluminium pickguard, really help to make this signature guitar stand out from the rest of the Charvel catalogue. That and the fact it is stripped back with a single Fishman Modern PRF-MHB-AB1 Alnico bridge pickup. The pickup is controlled by a push/pull speed knob that accesses the two available voices.

Shredder Heel
Another stand-out feature of this model is the sculpted shredder’s cut heel in the mahogany body. Elsewhere you have a pretty standard for Charvel, bolt-on maple neck with graphite reinforcement and a hand-rubbed satin urethane finish on the back. This has a 12”-16” compound radius ebony fretboard with rolled edges and comes loaded with 22 jumbo frets. And as ever with Charvel these days, it also has a set of Luminlay glow-in-the-dark side dots and the heel-mount truss rod adjustment wheel. The Floyd Rose 1000 Series double-locking tremolo system ensures solid tuning and is a must for this style of guitar.

Toothpaste Logo
I also like the classic Charvel ‘toothpaste’ logo on the Strat-style headstock, and it features Sgrosso’s signature on the rear of the headstock. This one as I mentioned earlier, is not available until November 2022 and so we will have to wait a while. I’m looking forward to hearing one in action though. These Mexican-made Charvels appear to be getting more interesting every year and so it could be well worth the wait.
