The BOSS IR-2 pedal contains 11 premium amp types and a set of Celestion Digital Impulse Responses, making it a compact rig for guitarists on the move. The system has 32-bit floating-point processing and a 96 kHz sampling rate, so it should sound very good at these higher rates.

The amp and cabinet sections can each be turned on/off independently for isolated use, which adds some welcome versatility to this already feature-packed pedal.

The pedal has a mono input and stereo outputs, along with a mono/stereo loop for patching in your favourite modulation, delay, and reverb effects after the IR-2’s amp emulation. They have also included a headphone jack for practice, which was a great idea and will make this pedal perfect for guitar players on the move.

Dual Tones

Users can switch between two amp/cab tones with the pedal switch or by using an external footswitch. This will make it easy to create lead tones, or give some variety to your set when playing live.

IR Loader

There is a dedicated IR-2 IR Loader app available for both macOS and Windows, so users can load their own Impulse Responses onto the unit.

Overall, this new IR-2 pedal looks like it could be the perfect solution for a lot of guitarists.

Wow! This is amazing. I suggested to Boss on a Facebook comment some years ago that they made a compact pedal version of their IR-200, and name it the IR-2, with the ability to load user impulse files via USB, and they’ve actually made it…! I really love the headphone output built in too. Of course with IR-2 needing 300mA current consumption to run the 32 bit 96kHz convolution DSP I guess the 9V battery won’t last many hours, but at least it CAN run on battery. I’m going to have to buy this pedal right away! Excellent, thank you Boss.

EDIT: Actually 300mA is wrong, that was a misprint on Thomann’s website. Current consumption for IR-2 is actually 160mA.
