Waves released a new plug-in for Black Friday. A free download until Nov. 30, Berzerk is a pretty wild distortion plug-in that would look equally at home on a floorboard or inside an Eurorack case if it were to exist in hardware form.

A comprehensive distortion and audio mangling tool, Berzerk features 10 distortion shapes and three sections, so to say – feedback, dynamics, and EQ. That and the more abstract controls like Temperature, Density, Character and so forth. A ‘Go Berzerk’ buton acts to randomize each distortion shape and the Temperature control works the saturator, adding warmth and ‘color’.

The Feedback section has oscillation, pitch and speed controls, sidechaining (internal/external), and filters among other stuff. The Dynamics section has gating, expansion, and input overdriving. The EQ is an EQ – okay, a Waves EQ, that speaks for itself. And then there are other intriguing possibilities like M/S processing (distort only mids or only sides of the stereo spectrum), in addition to presets done by mixing heavyweights like Lu Diaz and Dave Pensado.

A freebie rarely gets much cooler than Berzerk is, so head over to Waves and sort yourself out.
