Beatmaker HYPE

Firstly, let’s remind ourselves what UJam’s Beatmaker plugins are all about. The Beatmaker series of plug-ins are ideal if you’re looking for quick, easy, beat creation. Beatmaker sits somewhere between a sample pack and raw beat programming. You get access to a huge amount of “drumkits”, styles, phrases and grooves, all tailored around a particular genre. Beatmaker VICE, for example, is ideal if you’re after Synthwave style drums.

No matter what genre of electronic music you’re into, it seems that UJam offers a tailored version of Beatmaker. UJam has just dropped Beatmaker HYPE, aimed at Progressive House and EDM producers. In this case, the 60 drumkits, 189 styles, 2737 phrases and 320 presets you’ll find on offer with Beatmaker HYPE are quite impressive. The question is, will Beatmaker HYPE let you to knock out your first EDM banger in minutes?

Does HYPE meet Reality?

Undoubtedly, the cynical programming elite amongst you is probably reading this and picturing some trashy “music by numbers” plugin. Obviously, you could use Beatmaker HYPE like that, but you’d be missing out on what’s possible. It should be noted that Beatmaker offers some great tools to jumpstart creativity. How many times have you had a melody in your head and quickly needed to get a vibe going?

For example, Beatmaker HYPE offers deep MIDI integration which really transforms it from a preset machine to a super creative plug-in. You can drag and drop preset phrases into the arrange window as MIDI note data. That’s a great feature, as it allows phrases and patterns to be discretely edited and exported. Importantly, there’s also nothing to stop you from using Beatmaker as a straightforward MIDI drum module. All sounds can be triggered directly by MIDI, too.

For the price, this looks like another great addition to UJam’s range of Beatmaker plugins.
