Barefoot Sound is renowned for its MiniMain studio monitors, with the ingenuity of the Dual-Force subwoofer design that produces a particularly well-articulated low end. With the Footprint series, Barefoot aimed to make this detailed monitoring experience accessible to far more musicians, producers, and engineers.

Barefoot went back to the drawing board for the update of the Footprint01, starting with the MDF speaker enclosures that have been constructed using stress-assembly methods for improved rigidity and decreased internal resonance. The enclosure is also equipped with acoustic damping, and it’s been tuned for the best possible transient response and dispersion.

More Information

The Class D tri-amplified driver system uses dual 8-inch (500W) aluminum cones for bass down to 36 Hz, a 5-inch (150W) aluminum cone for the midrange, and a 1-inch dual-ring radiator for the high-frequency range. What’s more, the Footprint01 Gen2 features the SPOC conversion technology for higher audio resolution and lower noise levels.

As with all Barefoot studio monitors, the Footprint01 Gen2 has the MEME monitor emulation feature that allows you to change the voicing profile for different applications. The four modes let you shift between the standard flat response profile, an enhanced Hi-Fi mode, an NS10-style profile, and a cube monitor profile.

Overall, the upgrade to a tri-amplified system with a larger midrange driver and an active crossover promises a significant step up in performance. Although the competition in this price range includes serious options like the Genelec 8331 and the PSI Audio A17, these are characteristically different-sounding monitors, so it comes down to personal preference.
