Audiothing made an exacting emulation of the most analog of analog devices… the megaphone. More specifically, an electrically amplified megaphone. Otherwise, it would have been more of a bullhorn emulation which is a different vibe. The megaphone is an old rock and roll / riot music cliche that still works. I must say, having the convenience of the effect without recording through a real megaphone (or slapping a low / band pass filter and calling it a day) is quite nice.

Megaphone is fully dedicated to emulating the electrically amplified megaphone. It offers two loudspeaker emulations, which are called Mode I and Mode II. Controls for the bandwidth – i.e. the frequency response of the megaphone – as well as Drive complete the main section. Furthermore, a real megaphone often creates a kind of slapback delay. It’s caused by the output of the integrated speaker being picked up by the built-in microphone. You can dial in the effect with the Feedback and Amount controls.

Noise also plays a role in the authentic megaphone sound. AudioThing expanded this area with a recent update, which added Trigger, Source, and Envelope controls for noise. Source lets you switch between microphone and loudspeaker noises. Envelope activates an envelope follower which conforms the burst noise to the transients of the incoming signal.

Finally, a master section lets you regulate the input gain, the output volume, and the wet/dry mix. There’s also a limiter to prevent things from getting rowdy.
