Arturia Rev OCEAN: More Than Just A Reverb?
This reverb plugin makes it easy to create evolving textures.
Introducing Arturia Rev OCEAN, a simple modulated reverb processor, ideal for creating textured spaces in downtempo and ambient music.
Rev OCEAN:
The plugin uses the same FDN (Feedback Delay Networks) engine as the Efx AMBIENT processor, a matrix of delays that creates texture and depth without introducing unnatural resonances.

Rev OCEAN has three distinctive processing modes, each bringing something different to the table. The Abyss mode implements pitch-shifted reversed textures, which produce an evolving reverb tail, rich with harmonics. Meanwhile, the Tide mode uses filter modulation that creates natural spectral movement, almost like phase shifting.
The third setting is called Foam, which softens and blurs transient energy for a textured reverb that gradually swells. Naturally, as you experiment with Rev OCEAN in different situations, you will gravitate toward a particular setting for applications like synth pads or vocals. Luckily, with three settings to familiarize yourself with rather than 17, this process will be far smoother.
Rev OCEAN has all the basic controls you’d expect on a reverb plugin, including pre-delay with tempo sync, decay with a freeze setting, damping, and an input filter to set the frequency range. What’s particularly interesting is the transient control, which determines the level of early reflective echoes created by the incoming transients.

Overall, Rev OCEAN looks like an inspiring, creative tool that really encourages exploration in a way that doesn’t require too much technical knowledge or sound design experience. Having a reverb in your collection that doesn’t sound like just another vintage digital algorithm is useful in modern genres like Hyper-Pop, EDM, and other styles of electronic music.
