AI specialist Accentize has released Chameleon, a new plug-in that can analyze and imitate the reverb from any source recording. Need to match the room ambience on a bunch of foley tracks? Trying to nail the reverb from your favorite old records? Chameleon has got you covered.
Accentize is known for AI-driven plug-ins that are capable of doing things that used to be impossible. Take DeRoom Pro, for example, a reverb removal tool driven by machine learning. Or SpectralBalance, which uses neural networks to automatically EQ speech recordings. With Chameleon, the company has once again turned to artificial intelligence to create a plug-in that could potentially become an indispensable tool for ADR, sound design, post production and music composition. Chameleon’s specialty: reverb matching.
Chameleon uses artificial neural networks to analyze and recreate the reverb present in any source recording. The developer says that the machine learning algorithm was trained using over 30.000 example rooms. Once Chameleon has created a reverb profile from the source recording, it automatically adjusts the dry/wet mix, stereo width and pre-delay to provide an authentic imitation of the reverb. You can also extract the impulse response and export it as a WAV file, for use with your preferred convolution reverb.
If you work in foley or ADR, for example, Chameleon must sound like a godsend. The plug-in makes it easier than ever to add dry elements to an existing foley or dialogue track and match the ambience. But I can think of creative uses in music production, too. Love that particular reverb from your favorite disco record? Now you can use AI to recreate it. Got some drum samples that include reverb, and want to match other sounds to them? Chameleon can do that for you, too.
