Tiny Amp Destroyer

Yes, the JAM Pedals Tiny Amp Destroyer is built on the tone of a budget Cash Converters guitar amp. This pawnshop guitar amp has been used by Stu Mackenzie on King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard recordings and is part of his guitar sound.

They have made it more flexible, with two gain stages and a built-in treble booster section, so let’s take a closer look at this box of crazy.

Three Switches

The pedal is essentially three sections: a low-gain section named G2, followed by a higher-gain section named G2, these can both be stacked for even more gain. Then they have added a treble booster section to add even more gain options into the mix. Each section is footswitchable, so it is easy to navigate live or in the studio.

More Control

The pedal also includes a shared Active Bass and Treble control, allowing users to boost/cut frequencies as required. It also has a Notch control, used to cut frequencies and make the pedal sound boxier, and if that isn’t enough, the Magic switch, when engaged, makes the pedal sound even more compressed, just like a small practice amp.

Essentially, turning a larger guitar amp into the voice of a dinky amp, with all the compressed nasal qualities of a small amp being run hard and into distortion.

Internal Voicings (DIP Switch)

The pedal uses the JAM Pedals’ Rooster Circuit for the treble boost section. Internal DIP switches allow users to set the pedal to one of two modes. Select between the Standard setting for a traditional, focused treble boost or the Full setting for a broader frequency response with increased low end. The pedal ships set to Full mode by default.

The pedal features original artwork by Jason Galea, who also does the art for the band’s albums and tour posters.
