EHX Pico Shimmer: A Mini 3-in-1 Ambient Reverb Machine
For lovers of ambient, shoegaze, and dreampop!
Electro-Harmonix is expanding its Pico series and now welcomes the EHX Pico Shimmer to the roster of mini stompboxes. The name says it all: three shimmer reverb algorithms create epic, shimmering reverb tails.

Perfect for the ambient universe
EHX is now releasing the Pico Shimmer, following the recent Pico Atomic Cluster and Pico Swello. And, as with the Atomic Cluster and Swello, there’s more to the pedal than its size would suggest. If you like mini-pedals, packed with features, and enjoy a shimmer reverb, well, this one is for you. It is perfect for ambient, shoegaze, dreampop, etc.
Three Shimmer algorithms
The Pico Shimmer offers three shimmer algorithms: Intergalactic, Off-World, and Etherdust. EHX borrowed these from Ocean 11.
Intergalactic consists of classic polyphonic octave-shifted reverb tails, mixed with a touch of modulated delay and a special “string engine.”
Here, every note and every chord floats and sparkles. Off-World cranks up the retro feel. If shimmer reverbs sound too sharp or digital for you, you might find what you’re looking for here. With this algorithm, the sound is more diffused, and the delays are more heavily modulated.
If, on the other hand, you want a more experimental, glitch-like sound, then Etherdust is the right Shimmer flavour for the Pico Shimmer. Here, the delay times are randomly altered, creating stutter effects and granular delay-like sounds.
The workflow of the Pico Shimmer
As far as the layout is concerned, EHX remains true to the four-control principle of the Pico series: Blend (Dry/Wet), Time (reverb time), Voice (continuously switch between plate reverb, shimmer, and string engine), and Tone (low-pass filter).
Scene Button
Holding down the Scene button in the middle grants access to the pedal’s second settings level. Here you can adjust the reverb effect level (Reverb Mix), the delay duration, and the speed (Rate) and intensity (Depth) of the modulation.
The Scene button lets you switch between the three algorithms. The footswitch activates the effect, but also freezes the reverb tail if you hold it down. The pedal offers a choice of three buffered bypass modes: Digital, Analog, and Hybrid. A Trails function is also included.
How much does the EHX Pico Shimmer cost?
You can get the EHX Pico Shimmer for $154/£139/€159 at Thomann. The delivery time is currently listed as “On request” (as of June 10, 2026), so it might take a while before the pedal arrives.
