PRS Guitars has just launched a highly limited run of Mango Top models, and they are available across six of their top models. Paul Reed Smith loves experimenting with new woods in his quest for tonewood, and now he has a new offering for fans of highly figured tops.

PRS Mango Wood Tops
The PRS Mango Tops are being released across six models: the Custom 24 Mango, Custom 24-08 Mango, Studio Mango, Special Semi-Hollow Mango, McCarty 594 Mango, and the Paul’s Guitar Mango. Apart from the fancy new figured tops, they also feature a ziricote fretboard and a matching headstock veneer.
Limited Run
Each model is strictly limited to 200 units, featuring an even split of 100 pieces per finish. Which means that if you want one, you’ll need to move relatively quickly. However, these are all top-tier models and therefore quite expensive, so they are more aimed at PRS fans and collectors.
If you are into highly figured tops on guitars, then you should appreciate these for what they are.
Mangifera Indica
“Mango wood (Mangifera Indica) is similar to maple but a bit lighter in weight and a little less dense. There is quite a bit of variety in the figure, which very often shows what is referred to as a ‘bee’s wing’ pattern,” – PRS Guitars Senior Wood Manager, Michael Reid.
Mango wood is now preferred as a “cultivated” tree for guitars. When the tree is old and no longer bears much fruit, it is felled. Every mango wood guitar top looks different. Some have subtle patterns, others are dramatic and high-contrast.
Finishes include PRS favorites such as Blood Orange, Violet, Purple Mist, Fire Red Gray/Black Fade, Solar Flare, and Black Gold Burst.
Pricing & Availability
These limited-edition PRS Mango Wood tops are available to order now at Thomann. They have a wait time of around 3-4 weeks each, so if you want a specific one of these highly limited runs, you may want to order early to avoid missing out.
They are priced between €5999 and €6399 each, depending on the model, here at Thomann.
