Gretsch Electromatic Premier Jet: Gretsch to the Future
Compound Radius, Side Dots, and more!
Gretsch has unveiled its new Electromatic Premier Jet models today. While they incorporate plenty of tried-and-true elements from the world of Gretsch, they are unusually innovative for such a traditional manufacturer. Compound radius, newly developed humbuckers: is this still Gretsch?!
Electromatic Premier Jet: Compound Radius and Side Dots
Four models from the Electromatic Premier Jet series are being released today. In terms of price (see below), they are positioned in the lower mid-range, a particularly competitive segment of the guitar market. This is where beginners make the leap to their first “better” electric guitars, where preferences take shape, and where many guitarists decide on a brand or at least a type of electric guitar.

And to see a traditional brand like Gretsch introduce so many innovations in a single model is both bold and refreshing! But let’s take it one step at a time. As for the tonewoods, a tried-and-true combination is used: mahogany for the body, maple for the top, a set neck also made of mahogany, and an ebony fingerboard.

To compensate for the often considerable weight of a solid mahogany body, this model features a chambered body design. Add to this the neck with its unusual Performance “C” profile, and Luminlay side dots, and I’m not sure I’m even in Gretsch land anymore. But what’s truly unusual for Gretsch is the compound radius (10″ to 14″).
Sphera Twin Six Humbuckers
Visually, the Electromatic Premier Jet stands out with its pearloid neo-classic thumb inlays on 22 medium-jumbo frets, nickel hardware, and a black pickguard. All of this is available in four great colors.

The hardware features a Lockdown locking bridge and DieCast locking tuners, so this guitar will stay in tune like a champ! It’s also equipped with two Sphera Twin Six humbuckers featuring Alnico 6 magnets.
In terms of controls, the Electromatic Premier Jet features a master volume control with treble bleed and push/pull functionality to activate the Lumen Filter, as well as two no-load tone controls. Plus, a three-way switch selects and combines the two pickups.
How much do the Gretsch Electromatic Premier Jet guitars cost?
Four color options are available at Thomann, each priced at 729.00 euros:
